Bill Barry, director of labor studies at the Community College of Baltimore County and a 40-year veteran of the labour movement, has just published a new book in the U.S. that is also valuable to workers anywhere in the world who are facing problems because of the economic crisis.
The book covers how to handle grievances, negotiate contracts without concessions, how to make your union the centre of activity for active and laid off members, and their communities.
There is a brief historical discussion of how we got where we are and how unionism is the solution, and not the problem, for the current economic crisis.
